Nerve pain is a product of entrapment or irritation of the nerve, somewhere along its pathway. Entrapment may occur between the bones of the body (from poor postural alignment) or from tightness in the fascial tissue. Irritation may occur from nutrient deficiencies or toxicities, diet or organ problems.

What are the symptoms?
With so many nerves throughout the body, symptoms vary from person to person, but may include:
– Electric shocks
– Burning
– Sharp or stabbing
– Freezing or numbing
– Pins or needles
– Muscular weakness

Is nerve pain debilitating?
Severely irritated nerves may be incredibly sensitive and only light touch may be enough to aggravate the condition. Recently my wife underwent nutritional therapy for a toxicity issue she had. Unfortunately the doctor had prescribed a dosage that was a little too aggressive and it actually created nerve pain. At the time she felt like she was dying of some horrible disease and she was confined to the couch for several days until it passed. She is back to good health now, but it goes to show how powerful nutrition can be for nerve pain.

What can you do about it?
Pharmaceutical companies will tell you that a pain killer will fix the problem, a pain killer will help to mask the pain, but this can only be a short term solution. When the problem is a nutrient deficiency/toxicity, diet or organ problems, then these issues need to be addressed. If there is entrapment of the nerve, the solution lies in releasing the nerve from wherever it may be trapped. This is where Chiropractic and Myofascial Release are helpful. If you have nerve pain, look beyond the short term solution and resolve what is actually causing the problem.
